Structure

The structure of a technique refers to the modular composition of a technique.

Module

A module is the most basic component of a technique. Every module is an entanglement of the five signs: fate, life, harmony, power, occult. These signs are arranged (or woven) in a chiasmic structure, with harmony placed at the intersection. Each sign represents a referent, an object external to the system that the system is operating on.

Mode

Each module can have one of four weaving modes, which are processes that activate blood in one of four different ways. These are the basic modules that compose any technique.

Ω Conjuring

Consumes blood to produce an effect. Only blood that is under the user’s bloodright can be used, the conjured product is automatically subjected to the user’s bloodright but cannot be reversed into blood. The amount of blood required to conjure something depends on its mass and/or energy.

A conjuring module takes instructive input from its Fate sign, the blood input from its Life sign, the target (usually a location) as the Occult sign, and the result as the Power sign. It is represented by Ω in notation.

κ Kinesis

Dominates the qualities and properties of its element including but not limited to shape, density, volume, and movement. The target element must meet the technique’s requirements and must be subjected to the user’s bloodright. It consumes a small quantity of blood for the length of time it is active.

A kinetic module takes instructive input from its Fate sign, blood input from the Life sign, the target element or one of its properties as the Occult sign, and the effect on the element as the Power sign. It is represented by κ in notation.

τ Transmutation

Consumes blood to transform a target into something else. The transmutation can be undone in the first few seconds after being completed, returning the object to its original state but not the consumed blood.

A transmuting module takes instructive input from its Fate sign, blood input from the Life sign, the starting form of its target as the Occult sign, and the final form of its target as the Power sign. It is represented by in τ in notation.

Δ Divination

Occupies blood (but doesn’t consume it) to manipulate constructs of the mind. This mode doesn’t affect things outside of the user’s mind, but it is extremely useful for systematizing other modules, binding them together conditionally in sequences, and creating more complex systems and techniques.

A divining module takes its target as the Fate sign, a blood input as its Life sign, the Occult sign represents the logical operator NOR, and the Power sign represents the logical operator NAND. It is represented by Δ in notation.

Sequencing

A single mode can only make extremely simple operations at a time. So, in order to make more complex systems, blood artists combine several modes into sequences. A sequence is a linear process composed of individual modes. Sequences allow for more complex weaving processes, using multiple modes (even of different type), which are necessary for techniques to be made. Sequences can be linked together conditionally, and can be triggered by the weaver’s input or by other independent factors.

System

When sequences are woven together through divining modules they make up systems, weaving processes that can work independently of others. Systems can be bound together to then form weaving techniques. Although, technically, a single sequence can be a system by itself and a single system can be a technique by itself.

Techniques are often explained has having a system of one of the four modes (conjuring, kinetic, etc.) even though most systems have sequences with more than one mode. Systems are described by mode based on the ultimate result they produce and not on the mode of their modules.

Notation is used to represent the structure of a technique.
