Functional root system
Roots are typically monosyllabic with both onset and coda (CVC). They represent the grammatical function of the word in a given sentence (verb, noun, etc). Affixes complete the word with semantic value. Suffixes are all monosyllabic without an onset (VC) while affixes are without coda (CV).
