The United Earth is a republican planet-state that has been governing Earth since it was founded in 2800, after the Crash brought the collapse of the Solar Empire. The United Earth is a major super power, rivaled only by the Gestalt, with the largest military in the Solar System and a powerful economy. They exert their hegemony over most of the Solar System, contending their sphere of influence with Mars.

History

After the Crash happened in 2790, the Solar Empire began rapidly collapsing, all of its supply chains were lost and their high tech infrastructure was crippled. The Emperor was unable to rebuild what was lost while containing the chaos. The pressure eventually culminated in 2800, when republican factions launched a coup d’etat and overthrew the Emperor, founding the United Earth.

Political power was still not consolidated, but the popular support enjoyed by the republicans allowed them to mobilize the loyal parts of the population to restore their society. After two decades of rebuilding and repairing, the United Earth was already thriving economically and they began reopening relations with other states, especially the Divine Mandate. Meanwhile, the Martian Empire tried to defend their lost colonies, engaging in small wars with the United Earth which they all lost. Their crumbling economy could no longer support them as a superpower, leading Mars down a path of decadence.

In 2925 the Gestalt was founded after the Martian Empire was overthrown in 2919. Their communist style of governance was wholly at odds with Earth’s economic policy, if more states followed their lead it would be disastrous for the thriving corporations on Earth. So, the Gestalt was immediately declared an enemy of Earth and subjected to an embargo in hopes that the misery would make their new leadership lose control of its population. However, Mars resisted and restored its status as superpower over the next few decades.

Between 2925 and 2977, Earth and Mars were engaged in a Fifty Years Struggle. A communist state on the outermost planet in the core of the Solar System was extremely dangerous, as it separated Earth and Venus from the rest of the Solar System, which their economies relied on. It was also a rocky planet, which has great advantages over small moons or orbital megastructures. In 2932 they sent ships to defend Ganymede from the Jovian Union, which was trying to wipe out House Negev, they then bombed Kirsk, their capital, to prevent an attack on Ganymede. They turned Ganymede and Io into small proxies, using them to dock their ships as close as possible to the Jovian Union.

Government

The United Earth is a constitutional republic, with three branches of government. The legislative branch is represented by the Senate with 9980 senators, the judicial branch by the Supreme Court with 45 judges, and the executive branch by the President and their cabinet.

The surface of Earth is divided into 89 provinces, each led by a governor elected by the locals. Provinces can enact their own legislation in compliance with the planetary laws (with some exception) and with the Constitution.

Security Intelligence Network

The Security Intelligence Network, shortened to SiN, is a state department of United Earth, founded in 1930 by Michael Farage. Its purpose is to collect information within and without Earth’s orbit, which is essential for strategic planning and planetary security; as well as leading intelligence operations. The current director of SiN is David Kostantinov, who has held the title for 28 years.

Other than collecting information, the department can also employ specialized agents or use military force without direct approval from Earth’s Congress or public disclosure for the purposes of planetary defense and security.

Economy

The government of Earth strongly encourages free market capitalism which relies on large interplanetary corporations based on Earth. These corporations extract value from the Solar periphery in the form of cheap resources and labor and bring it back to Earth, where they control every single aspect of production and distribution of goods and services.

Earth is one of the leading planets in technological development, especially regarding cybernetics, weapons, and eugenics. Arch Corporation, the largest and richest corporation in the Solar System, is the industry standard when it comes to any technological device.

Military

The military of the United Earth mainly relies on eumen. They can be produced and recycled on the military vessels with preinstalled training, making them an exceptionally cheap military force. It is the largest in numbers, even surpassing Mars’ doll army.

Their fleet is large and highly advanced, enough to be present in every corner of the Solar System. They have agreements in place with most states to allow them to have military bases in foreign orbit and soil.

Their line of super soldiers are often eumen, enhanced genetically and with cybernetics. They can be produced quickly and in series by cloning the same DNA and implanted the same skills genetically, making them easily replaceable in case of injuries.

Imperialist Doctrine

The United Earth’s military is the key to their economic success as it secures their corporations’ interests abroad, where labor and resources are cheaper and allow them to maximize profits. The military is designed to deal with armed factions that do not wish to comply with their economic policy. Whenever a state, particularly communist ones, attempt to nationalize their resources or compete with them economically, the United Earth applies a destabilization strategy that aims at worsening the conditions of the population to the point where the state loses the people’s favor, allowing the SiN to plot a coup d’etat.

A crude example of this strategy was the Brachman Plague of 2998, which targeted the Gestalt and was organized by the SiN. The virus scrambled its victims DNA, making them functionally sterile, reducing the birthrates and creating massive chaos in the Gestalt. Although the Plague was stopped in a year, the Gestalt is still suffering today from the damage it caused.

Planetology

Earth is home to the most complex ecosystem in the Solar System. It is the only one that has developed without human intervention and also the largest and most diverse. The urban areas, however, have taken over significant portions of the surface, diminishing the presence of some biomes. Because of this, large cities are often divided by large green areas.

Earth’s water is the second largest in quantity in the Solar System, second only to Europa, where large floating cities have been built.
